FAQs

lowcarb diet generally excludes or limits most grains, legumes, fruits, breads, sweets, pastas and starchy vegetables, and sometimes nuts and seeds. Some lowcarb diet plans allow small amounts of certain fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

A keto or ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that can help you burn fat more effectively. It has many benefits for weight loss, health and performance, as shown in many studies. It involves reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with healthy fats to fuel your body.

A keto diet can be especially useful for losing excess body fat without hunger, and for reversing type 2 diabetes, along with many other health benefits .

There are many forms of KETO and Low Carb Diet Plans around and here at Tarn’s we aim to help you on your journey to a better, healthier you without missing out on anything..

The “keto” in a ketogenic diet comes from the fact that it allows the body to produce small fuel molecules called “ketones”.This is an alternative fuel source for the body, used when blood sugar (glucose) is in short supply.

Ketones are produced if you eat very few carbs (that are quickly broken down into blood sugar) and only moderate amounts of protein (excess protein can also be converted to blood sugar).

The liver produces ketones from fat. These ketones then serve as a fuel source throughout the body, especially for the brain.

This is great if you’re trying to lose weight, but there are also other less obvious benefits, such as less hunger and a steady supply of energy. This may  also help to keep you alert and focused.

A low carb diet can also help with many medical conditions such as

  • Diabetes control
  • pain management
  • Fatty liver disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Migraines
  • Autoimmune and inflammatory diseases eg. Rheumatoid arthritis

When the body produces ketones, it enters a metabolic state called ketosis. The fastest way to get there is by fasting – not eating anything – but nobody can fast forever. A keto diet, on the other hand, can be eaten indefinitely and also results in ketosis. It has many of the benefits of fasting – including weight loss – without having to fast

Here are a couple of reasons we do this here at Tarns’ Keto.

  • No Need for Preservatives: Freezing meals gives an impressively long shelf life without the need to add chemical preservatives. Check out the ingredients list on a refrigerated ready meal compared to a frozen meal – you’ll frequently find preservatives in the former, yet they are just not necessary in the frozen meal.

  • More Nutrients: Freezing preserves most nutrients and in fact, often you’ll find levels of a nutrient such as vitamin C higher in frozen foods compared to fresh. That’s because nutrients that are easily destroyed by light, air and temperature can quickly diminish in fresh produce and refrigerated meals over several days. In contrast, fresh produce is frozen on the day it is picked and frozen meals are immediately frozen after making. This prevents further loss of nutrient levels.

  • Antioxidant Packed: Antioxidants and other beneficial plant compounds including carotenoids and polyphenols are well preserved with freezing, making it easier to boost your intake without the need to buy fresh foods and meals every few days

Single serve meals in chinese containers are designed to be heated from frozen in your microwave.

We suggest – lid off, heat for 5 minutes on high, a quick stir then another minute or so to your desired temperature.

Tray bakes which include our lasagna, shepherd’s pie and cheeseburger are to be heated from frozen. Unwrap and place on your oven tray and into the oven at 180 degrees.

It will take approx 1 hour to bake through .

You’ll know when it’s ready as the top will be golden and bubbling and when a knife is inserted into the middle it will come out hot.

Bake at Home Pies are to be heated from frozen. Loosen pie from the foil base and spray lightly with olive oil (this will stop it sticking during baking) place onto an oven tray and bake for 15-20 minutes at 180 degrees.

As mentioned above:

  • Frozen vegetables are nutritionally more reliable than fresh as freezing prevents sensitive vitamins and nutrients from being lost during transportation.
  • Freezing allows you to choose from a vast selection of seasonal ingredients all year round.
  • Frozen food contains no preservatives.
  • Generally, frozen foods retain their vitamins and minerals and there is no change to the carbohydrates, protein or fat content.

All of our low carb products are gluten free, this includes all of our meals and sweets range. Anything we label as low carb or keto is gluten free.

Keto is short for ketogenic. The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet . The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates. It can be helpful for not only weight loss but also to help treat and control many other health issues , including type 2 diabetes, depression , inflammation, PCOS & menopausal symptoms, IBS and other autoimmune issues.
